Winter 2025 Demo Day: 13 Startups Pitch
December 18, 2025: CIE hosted Winter Demo Day showcasing 13 emerging startups across DeepTech, MedTech, AI, Mobility, Climate Tech, robotics, language technologies, space systems.
Startups drawn from CIE’s three accelerators presented research-driven, cutting-edge innovations. Over 20 leading investors actively exploring scalable technology ventures attended, making strong platform for startup-investor engagement.
Investor pool included: SucSEED Venture Partners, Abyro Capital, O2 VC Fund, Hyderabad Angels, Pavestone VC, Gruhas.
Startups presented validated technologies, market traction, investment readiness. Aligned with CIE’s “Lab-to-Land” approach, showcased startups translating applied research from IIIT-H labs into deployable, market-ready solutions.
Work spans intelligent sensing, AI-driven diagnostics, autonomous systems, sustainable materials, next-generation infrastructure. Delivering measurable societal, environmental, economic impact.
The Lab-to-Land Philosophy
What makes CIE different: Research-led innovation as primary mandate. Focus on amplifying technology through research collaboration and co-creation models.
Startups work directly with research groups at IIIT-H. Access cutting-edge labs: CVIT (Computer Vision), RRC (Robotics Research Center), CVEST (Center for VLSI and Embedded Systems Technology), SPCRC (Signal Processing and Communications Research Center).
Not just business mentoring. High-end computing infrastructure supporting serious deep learning requirements. Infrastructure academic incubators typically lack.
Example: DeepTech startups training ML algorithms while developing proof of concept find support difficult elsewhere. IIIT-H brings value both seeding new startups from research and mentoring enabling startups from outside.
Three Active Accelerators
Avishkar (DeepTech Accelerator)
Launched 2016 as India’s first deeptech accelerator program. Pivotal moment: CIE became country’s premier deeptech incubator.
Focus: Startups working in AI, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, NLP, AR/VR. Up to ₹40 lakh seed funding. Summer and winter cohorts.
Sectors supported: MediaTech, Mobility Tech, MedTech, DeepTech. Research collaboration with IIIT-H faculty and labs core to program.
Ojas (MedTech Incubator)
MedTech BioNEST funded by DBT’s BIRAC. Supporting healthcare, biotech, diagnostics startups. Medical Electronics Calibration Lab provides specialized infrastructure.
Translating medical research into devices, diagnostics, health tech solutions. Winter 2025 Demo Day featured medtech startups with AI-driven diagnostics.
AIC-IIITH (Social Incubator)
Setup with NITI Aayog funding. Supporting tech-for-social-impact startups. Solutions addressing societal challenges through technology.
Enabling Labs and Infrastructure
Maker Lab (Prayas): Well-equipped fabrication space. Supported by DST. Prototype development, hardware iteration.
Medical Electronics Calibration Lab: Specialized for medtech startups. Testing, validation of medical devices.
AR/VR Lab: Immersive technology development. Gaming, enterprise applications.
High-performance computing: GPU clusters for deep learning. Serious compute requirements for AI startups.
Product Labs: Pre-Incubation Program
Unique initiative seeding new products from research. Pre-incubation program specifically seeding startups from research.
Bridges gap between academic research and commercial startup. Researchers, PhD scholars, faculty can explore commercialization before full commitment.
What Founders Actually Get
Seed funding: Up to ₹40 lakh through Avishkar and other programs. IIIT-H Seed Fund as investment partner.
Research collaboration: Co-creation with IIIT-H faculty, research labs, advanced infrastructure. Direct access to cutting-edge research.
Technical mentorship: Not generic business advice. Deep technical guidance from researchers and domain experts solving similar problems.
Computing resources: High-end infrastructure for ML training, computer vision, robotics simulation. Critical for deeptech development.
Co-working space: 30,000 sq ft facility on IIIT-H campus. Collaborative environment with other deeptech founders.
Investor access: Quarterly demo days. Curated investor pools. Warm introductions to VCs focused on deeptech.
Ecosystem connections: Strong ties across Hyderabad ecosystem. CIE seeded T-Hub 2015, now India’s largest incubator. Knowledge, experience built T-Hub foundation.
Who This Is For
CIE especially relevant for specific founder types:
Research-driven founders: PhD scholars, researchers, faculty commercializing research. Product Labs provides structured path.
DeepTech builders: AI, ML, computer vision, robotics, NLP solutions requiring serious compute and research infrastructure.
MedTech innovators: Healthcare devices, diagnostics, biotech. Ojas provides specialized support and calibration labs.
Engineers seeking validation: Complex technical ideas needing validation from research community before market.
Application and Programs
Programs open throughout year. Apply through cie.iiit.ac.in for Avishkar cohorts (Summer/Winter).
Evaluation focuses on: Technical innovation depth, research backing, team capability, market opportunity, scalability potential.
Not looking for just business ideas. Looking for research-driven innovations translating academic work into deployable solutions with measurable impact.
The Hyderabad Advantage
CIE being earliest incubators in city, now largest academic incubator in country, has strong social mandate helping growing city startup ecosystem.
Past 17 years saw Hyderabad emerge as premier startup destination. CIE instrumental in this transformation. Seeded T-Hub 2015. Actively engaging with networks, enabling new incubators, initiatives.
Most CIE programs, initiatives open to all startups in city, not limited to those physically incubated at CIE. Ecosystem-first approach.
